Joyce Yurko
Joyce has been enjoying her return to the Biblical School after wrapping up a seventeen-year career developing curriculum and teaching Middle School for the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist at Spiritus Sanctus Academy, Plymouth. She loves leading others to discover God’s love and His desire for intimate communion with each of us through what He has revealed in Scripture and Tradition.
Her favorite Scripture passage is “the steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:22-23).
Joyce studied History at the University of Michigan, and, through classes for that degree plus travel in Europe, she developed an interest in sacred art. Joyce earned an MA in Theology from Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit, writing her thesis on St. Pope John Paul II’s theology of the Resurrection as the fulfillment of our human destiny. She was trained as a teacher by the Dominican Sisters and had the opportunity to be apprenticed to Dr. Barbara Morgan in the art of catechesis.
In her spare time, she loves reading, traveling and hiking, especially in our beloved National Parks. Her greatest joy, however, is in her family: married to John for 35 years, mother of 5 grown children and 5 grandchildren including newborn twins!
