One of the most effective means of growing in knowledge of God is through prayerful daily reading of the Bible called lectio divina. Sometimes it is described as having four aspects...These valid distinctions can make something very simple sound complicated.
To read Scripture daily, find a few minutes when you are not likely to be interrupted. Begin by asking the Lord to speak to you or teach you through his word. Read through a few paragraphs or a chapter of the Bible--more if time allows--once or twice. In the long run, it is most fruitful to work one's way through whole books of the Bible, rather than just selections.
When something catches your attention, stop and try to understand it, perhaps pausing to pray. Try to be sensitive to any insight or inspiration that the Spirit may be giving you.
Conclude with a prayer thanking the Lord and asking for his grace to understand, believe, and put into practice what you have read. During the day, try to recall what you read.
